Grizzly Strides a non-contact boxing based program for people living with Parkinson’s disease launched in 2016.  It is an adaptive physical and cognitive health exercise program.  We offer group classes with innovative training practices in a supportive, safe and motivating environment.  Advances in neurological research have shown that the human brain’s potential for neuroplasticity has been greatly underestimated leaving a whole new exciting path of discovery lying ahead!

Fernanda Beinotti, MSc, B Physio

While not a cure for Parkinson’s or other brain conditions, moderate to vigorous aerobic exercise has been shown to help significantly with both motor and non-motor symptoms. The elements of a boxer’s training are highly related, giving individuals the opportunity to be active participants in their own treatment plan while increasing overall fitness in an exciting and positive social setting.  We include motor language warm ups and practice in each of our group classes.  Fernanda joined our team in 2024, she is an international physiotherapy graduate (Brazil) in the process of completing her Canadian equivalencies.  She comes to us with a master’s in medical science, more than 15 years experience in acute and chronic individuals’ rehabilitation and over 5 years experience in research.  We offer fitness, balance and mobility assessments on site at Silvertip Training Centre, our spacious 7,000 sq ft age-friendly facility.  Watch our videos and view our photo gallery below to get a better sense of the program.

Words From The Professionals

We asked some of our medical background clients what they think of our programs.

A few months after my diagnosis with PD, I learned about Grizzly Strides. There are several peer reviewed journals highlighting the positive impact of exercise in PD so as a way to be an active participant in my health journey, I decided to join. I have felt more empowered and also I have found a community of support.
Indira Caro, Registered Psychologist
As a person living with Parkinson’s I cannot say enough about the physical therapy provided by Grizzly Strides. The program challenges our bodies and our minds in ways that address the unique features of the disease, all while in a community of people with Parkinson’s. It is a highlight of my week!
Peter Gant MD, Emergency Medicine (Ret)
I enjoy this class because it allows me to do Parkinson’s specific exercises in a fun atmosphere. Darcy provides coaching that is supportive for people of all abilities, and she encourages us to work hard to develop athleticism and boxing skills. Spending time with other people with Parkinson’s has helped me a lot and the group is welcoming.
Tammy Hnatyshyn, Registered Nurse
I have found this program to be very beneficial, as it includes aerobic exercise, training to improve balance, fine motor and cognitive skills. Moreover, the program is fun and has an important element of social interactions. The trainers are great to work with and I always enjoy my twice weekly sessions at the gym.
